Three beers from Cloughmore launched in the last couple of months. I heard that the Heather IPA was pretty good so I said I’d try the trio. The Granite Lager is decent but innocuous enough.
The Heather IPA was quite enjoyable. There’s some honeylike flavours in there and oily pine as well. I’d happily drink it again.
The Dark Water Stout again is grand but there’s nothing here to scare the Guinness loving horses. This beer is contract brewed for Noreast by Whitewater Brewing. The branding is good and it meets Beoir’s criteria to be categorised as ‘Irish Craft’ but I am curious as to why distributors and importers are getting in to making beer. It’s obvious that they like good beer as they distribute a lot of it but are they just looking for a piece of the pie or are they going to bring something more to the table? Does it matter? Isn’t choice for the consumer the most important thing? What do you think?
