Date Night

The kids were away last night so my wife and I got to spend some time together alone. Which was nice. After much dithering we arrived at The Villager, Glasson for our dinner. I started off with a Black Donkey Buck It and the Queen Bee had a Dan Kelly’s Cider.

We were brought a handful of complimentary chicken wings to taste while waiting for our starter, which I thought was a nice touch. They were tasty too.

Our starter proper was sticky bacon ribs, which we shared. The meat just fell off the bone…

I stuck with pig for my main, a pork chop with Toulouse sausage. Delicious.

The lady had Mexican style tacos which weren’t bad at all…

The service was excellent, the atmosphere was relaxed and I thought the prices were reasonable enough, check it out for yourself.

We made the short trip across the road to Grogan’s after that, hoping to get some of their epic Oreo cheesecake for dessert. Sadly it wasn’t on but we shared a rather good chocolate pudding instead. They have recently gotten in a few of the 8 Degrees beers so I went with a Knockmealdown Stout, I haven’t had one in a long time and I enjoyed it.

Then we went to the IMC Cinema in Athlone to see the Ridley Scott fillum of Andy Weir’s The Martian. Spoiler Alert: there are no little green men in it. Great fillum though.

We ended up in Don’s Bar, Moate for a night cap and Don gave me one of his own ‘homebrews’ to accompany my Bo Bristle Stout. It wasn’t bad but I don’t think I will be changing my allegiance from beer anytime soon. A great way to spend Saturday night with the woman I love. *blushes* Sláinte!
