About Simon…

This is a blog mostly about beer. I am based in Moate which is near Athlone in the Irish Midlands but I search far and wide for new beers. Naturally I will not accept payment for reviews but samples are always welcome.

Disclosure: I work as Territory Sales Manager for Fourcorners. – Opinions still my own. (Mostly!)

Constructive criticism somewhat welcome! 🙂

What a fun blog for you!!

  2. Hi

The Very Inspiring Blogger award. I was rash and impetuous and I added you to the list, as per the rules, that I was bound by oath to follow.

It’s not for everyone, and as it’s not one of those awful chain letter things that you have to pass on or a swarm of a million bees will infest your garage, or if you do in 7 minutes you’ll receive the wish that you always wanted, feel free to ignore, delete or berate me for spamming you.

Anyhoo being that it’s self policing there are some guidelines – and I stumbled on the #4.

    Oh the link is

    Here are the guidelines:

Thank and link the amazing person who nominated you.
List the rules and display the award.
    Share seven facts about yourself.
Nominate 15 other amazing blogs and comment on their posts to let them know they have been nominated.

  3. I have played that game twice. Once at a belgian bar and again at a local retailer. its always fun as all it requires is a person called simon. however it can still be done with any other name just not as fun.

  4. Hi,
Thanks for following my blog! In an abstract way, we have similar projects going on, I guess & even though I hate beer, I definitely respect a fellow passionate curator. I’ve pointed my husband [who lived in Ireland for some time, btw] & my best friend in your blog’s direction, both of whom are big beer lovers. They had some Anchor steam together the other day but I can’t remember how they liked it.
I don’t know if you’re interested in fine chocolates but regardless, you might be interested in my blogging friend Kris’s fine chocolate [mostly bean to bar] reviewing blog http://beantobar.wordpress.com/. All those sorts of degustation, whether it be beer, wine, chocolate, … have similar elements so you might find it interesting reading, if nothing else.

    • Thank you for your kind words and recommendations, when did your husband live here and where in Ireland did he live? The beer scene here has changed and improved considerably in the last few years! I’ll check out that other blog as well. I do like chocolate but I’d be no expert. Cheers.

      • Yes, I’m sure it has. All that microbrewing is a fairly recent trend & it was something like 15 years ago that he lived in Ireland [Galway]. He used to be partial to Smithwick’s but feel free to contact him directly & have a deep beer gourmet to beer gourmet discussion, I’m notified he accepted my invitation to like your Facebook page [Morten].
About chocolates, there’s a great fine chocolate club project in the UK, Cocoa Runners that sends out monthly selections of bean to bar chocolates from all around the world [they ship to Ireland for not much of an extra cost]. Check them out here: http://cocoarunners.com/ I think it’s a great way to get into chocolate more, especially if you’re just starting out because they do the picking part for you & most of those bars you wouldn’t come across in a store, even if you wanted to. Referring to Kris’s blog for his reviews on the bars you receive will help you develop an understanding of what sort of chocolate you like & then you can place more independent, informed orders.

  5. Hey I don’t know if you get to Scotland often but a new distributor has set up shop and is about to get its first delivery of beer from one of my semi local Canadian breweries. Driftwood Brewery. Maybe you could drink beer I write about one of these days.
