I’ve had a few very memorable evenings in Whelan’s, Kurt Vile was playing his second of two sold out shows last night and a posse of us headed in. This was my first visit since I started writing the blog. On our way in we passed Whelan’s Off Licence and a chalk board outside boasted about their selection of a hundred and fifty craft beers. This bodes well I thought to myself. Alas my hopes were swiftly dashed when I got into the venue and had a look at choices at the bar.
The question was asked about the Irish craft beer just in case it was hidden away somewhere. Nope. I went with Budvar in the end. This beer claims to be the original or true Budweiser. That’s a can of worms I’m not going to open right now. Suffice to say it’s tastier than Budweiser, but then, most things are. All I want is good original live music and some decent craft beer. Is that too much to ask? Kurt Vile is a legend by the way!
Funny that the word ORIGINAL appears on the Budvar label, as both the American Budweiser and the municipal brewery in České Budějovice were using the name before it.
Ha, yeah I read some of your thoughts on the matter recently, that’s why I didn’t want to start that one again! As I say all I want is somewhere with decent beer and good original music on draft…
