Last night’s finale episode was mostly magnificent. I was very fortunate to have been gifted a very fitting beer to accompany it. Ommegang brew in Cooperstown, New York and this is the latest of their Game Of Thrones beers. (Ommegang are now owned by Duvel, but if you’re going to get bought, it’s nice to be owned by one of the best in brewing!)
It’s a Red Ale called Fire and Blood, aptly, for a beer inspired by our favourite gorefest! The beer is spiced with ancho chillies which really make it stand out from the crowd. The beer danced across my tongue leaving a tingling sensation in it’s wake. It had some fruit sweetness for balance and kept me coming back for more. Outstanding.
********SPOILERS*********************
I didn’t like the children and their magic fire balls, it reminded me of when the Faeries took a bigger part in True Blood, which is when I reckon it jumped the shark. I’m not saying that’s what happened here but it was a bit too close for comfort for me!
Doing the Children as children, instead of the gnome-like creatures they are in the book was a bit lazy. Gotta love a bit of Harryhausen, though. And was it just me or did Bloodraven have two eyes? The “thousand eyes and one” line doesn’t work IF HE HAS TWO EYES!
I’m pretty sure he had just the two eyes. ..yeah the skeletons were cool. And I feel a bit hypocritical as the man who insisted that everyone needed to have read LOTR before gaining admission to the cinema. BUT I’ve not read the books! :/
