I was in Dublin yesterday and it was my birthday so I made my way to the newly opened Beer Market in Christchurch for a celebratory ale.
They have adopted a similar approach to BIERCaB in Barcelona with no fancy taps, but simply a list of beers above the bar.
The stronger beers are only available in 33cl pours and they’re not cheap. But I decided to go mad and treat myself. I’m enjoying Siren’s beers at the moment and they had two that I hadn’t yet tasted.
I started off with Life Is A Peach, a 6.4% IPA. I don’t like overly sweet beers and despite the lorry loads of fruit this one managed the balancing act with some juicy hops. Delicious.
I went for Siren’s Liquid Monstrous next. It’s an 8.5% IPA that plays fast and loose with the ‘pale’ part of the acronym, it’s a pretty dark shade of reddish brown. This one didn’t mess about with sweetness but went straight for the bitter jugular. It’s a souped up version of their Liquid Mistress and that’s a good thing!
I like the Beer Market and will visit again in the knowledge that they’ll have more new beers for me to try. Sláinte!
