They sell bags of crack in this place! And you thought Amsterdam was the right spot?
It was my last night in Munich and I was looking for some new, local ‘craft beers’. Google told me that the Tap House was my best bet so I made use of public transport to get there.
The menu had over thirty draught beers listed, a few pages of bottles and a decent selection of spirits and liqueurs as well. Where to start? Well, after all of the rather lovely Augustiner Edelstoff and Weisse beers I wanted something with a little bite. I ordered the Camba Pale Ale and was very happy with my decision. It was like a breath of fresh air, sweet, fruity, hoppy air!
Then I perused the blackboards and said I’d change my initial plan of drinking only local beers. Allagash Saison was on tap, I wasn’t going to see that anywhere again anytime soon. It was delicious and a little peppery.
One of the blackboards was advertising Brandy’s Brau Garage. The barman recommended their Tropical Sun IPA and it was a good shout!
Back to the blackboards, Camba had an American Brown Ale called Hop Gun. Sure, I had to give it a go!
…oh and the bags of Crack?
They were barbecue pork scratchings. Not a thing that I am particularly fond of normally, but these were great and, eh, somewhat addictive!
I got talking to the owner Boris and he explained the difficulties in craft beer getting a foothold in Munich as a lot of the real estate is owned by the ‘Big Six’. He is involved with a company that make brewing equipment and also the Camba brewery and opened the Tap House two years ago. A very friendly chap, he treated me to an Evil Twin I Love You With My Stout. It was a rich, fruity and warm one to finish the evening with.
There are a couple of Irish ties to the bar. Boris’ company supplied equipment to the Killarney Brewing Company and one of the barmen, Mick originally hails from Limerick. So we had a bit of a chat as well. A very enjoyable evening all round. If you’re in Munich don’t leave it til the last to visit the Tap House! Sláinte and Prost!
Holy… that’s one hell of a beer menu!
You’d want to have a bit of time on your hands to work through it!
The more the merrier!
looks impressive but I am so used to 50+ beer on tap all craft that I am spoiled.
Spoilt rotten. I’d give my right arm for that kind of choice. If it wasn’t my drinking arm!
Now I am sure that I have had almost nothing on that list though.
