Carlow Brewing Company are currently celebrating their twentieth year brewing and they are going to be releasing some special beers to mark the occasion. The first is Notorious, a Red IPA. I tasted this at the Alltech event at the start of the month but was glad to see it in the fridge in O’Brien’s. As I’m sure many of you know your palate takes a pounding at those things!
The beer certainly wallops you around the chops with a one, two, three of the big ‘C’ hops. It’s pretty sharp and bitter to start but gets more mellow and enjoyable as you get into it. The roast malt flavours really begin to come through and make it a good match for red meat. I had it with a steak. Pick up a bottle for yourself and try something different. Sláinte!
O’Hara’s Notorious, it’s a Knock Out!
