#fortheloveofit my arse.

You may have noticed Smithwick’s new ‘craft’ packaging on the shelves of your local supermarket or off licence. Their PR company sent me one of each to mark the occasion and the launch of the new #fortheloveofit campaign. Smithwick’s have been trying to jump on the craft bandwagon for a while now and I have to say this new packaging certainly looks the part.

If you would like to read what I thought about Smithwick’s homebrew competition click on the auld link here. Suffice to say that I haven’t changed my opinion. The new advertisement shows home brewers going to great rounds to produce decent beer and then suggests that, you know, we’re not really that different. Frankly, it’s a load of bollocks. Fair play to the marketing team for dreaming it up. But there is very little correlation between what you’re average home brewer gets up to in his or her garage or kitchen. I’ve seen the tanks in the Guinness plant where Smithwick’s is brewed. Now I suppose I may drink the other two bottles. If they do anything to change my opinion I’ll update this post. But I wouldn’t be waiting with bated breath. Sláinte!

  1. Lol. Gotta love when macro tries to hide in craft. They almost always fail in the most obvious ways.
