All Ireland Craft Beer Festival: Part Three

image

Saturday afternoon I was back in the thick of it in the RDS, this time accompanied by my friend Tony Burke who took some pictures for me. They will be in the Part Two which will be posted during the week. I had a list of beers to try which is a bit anoraky but I just wanted to narrow down the selection process! I had a wee drop of Mountain Man’s Broken Hipster Ginger Beer which was nice and light for the warm afternoon that was in it.

And I tried the new Sinner IPA from O Brother Brewing, it was pleasant but couldn’t reach the dizzy heights of the Yellow Belly from the day before. I heard great things about some of their other beers later on, but simply couldn’t fit any more in at that stage.

One suggestion for the organisers, and it may have been tried before, but a few seats would’ve been nice!

I swung by Jack Cody’s stand for some of their Lazy Eye IPA which wasn’t bad at all. Geoff was in rare form!

And then I went next door to Rye River who put a few different samples in front of me. The Watermelon Wheat cleansed my palate like a sorbet and then I tried their rather good new McGargles American IPA, lot’s of mango coming from that one and then a coffee Stout which was very rich. They’re doing some quality experimenting in Kilcock.

I had a chat with the lads from Derry’s Northbound and their Sticke Alt was excellent. Is it the first commercial Alt from this island?

The last beer I had at the festival was Eight Degrees Millennium. A 10% Imperial IPA, it was hoppy as you’d expect but it wasn’t over the top.

I want to finish the post though, with a mention for Yellow Belly’s Pale Stout. It was amazing. Seriously, you need to head down to Simon Lambert and Sons in Wexford to try it! I really enjoyed the festival, as I left there was a large que outside waiting to get in. Will it need to be somewhere bigger next year? The food tent outside was a good idea so that’s a start. Tune in again during the week for more pictures from the festival. Sláinte!
