Grozet, gruit, gone!

According to Untappd I’ve had Grozet from Scotland’s Williams Brothers Brewing Company before and I didn’t really rate it. The reason was probably that I had it in Bison and it wasn’t able to compete with their epic barbecue flavours. Second time round and I had it at home with salmon and coucous and it really worked. Grozet claims to be a gruit which is the style of beer that was brewed in the British Isles before the introduction of hops. Fruit and herbs were used to make the beer taste palatable. In this case bogmyrtle and gooseberries are used along with a few sneaky hops. It’s a good summer beer, citrussy and refreshing. Let that be a lesson to me!
