Three fine beers from Mescan Brewery

I’ve been waiting a while to try Mescan’s beers. I remember Belgian Smaak’s excellent piece about them really whetted my appetite so when I saw them in stock in Bradley’s they went straight into my virtual basket. These beers are unusual in the Irish market as they are Belgian style and apart from a few Saisons we don’t get many of them.

I had the Westport White first. It was in a big rush to get out of the bottle but settled down nicely. Drinking it brought me straight to a Belgian bar. Magical places, Belgian bars…

Next was the Blond, which was beautiful and really easy to drink. It’d be a good beer for afternoon or early evening.

And yesterday evening I was having a few stouts and completed the trio with the cleverly named Westporter Stout. Once again it looked beautiful, a picture perfect stout. It had great mouthfeel and I liked it the most out of the three. I also liked the attention to detail which extends beyond the brewing process. I am pretty sure they import their bottles from Belgium. The label specifies that you don’t drink it from pint pots and instead of the usual ‘drink responsibly’ notice there is a warning to lovers that urges caution as overindulgence doesn’t aid amorous endeavours. All three are highly recommended. Sláinte!
