If you are following me on any of the social medias, you probably know I was at Castlepalooza in Tullamore over the weekend. It’s been a few years since I attended the festival but I was happy going, safe in the knowledge that there was a decent line up of music as well as beer.
I was able to get Dan Kelly’s Cider, which I had with a delicious pulled pork blaa. There was also a few beers from McGargles on draught. Some beer fans I know still have a problem with McGargles. I have mostly gotten over my initial dislike of their beers, and would argue that they have improved hugely over the past year. I have already stated that I am fond of a drop of Cousin Rosie Pale Ale and I enjoyed a pint of Fancy Frank’s thirst quenching Lager early one evening.
…BUT, the real winner for my money, or beer tokens as they were the only acceptable currency, was Uncle Jim’s Stout. Even from a plastic glass, this was only gorgeous, smooth and easy drinking. I defy any Stout lover to have a pint of it and tell me it’s not good. Fuck the begrudgers. Sláinte!
