A tale of two IPAs

Forgive me dear Reader, for I have sinned, it’s been a whole week since my last blog post and I confess, I’ve had one or two beers in the meantime. Two of these were picked up on a recent visit to The Old Stand in Mullingar. The first is Greene King’s Double Hop Monster IPA. A common enough complaint about the normal Greene King IPA is that it is boring, bland and not hoppy enough. This beer could well be the answer to that gripe. It’s definitely hoppy. With some of those piney hops. And it’s got some caramel malt. But that’s about it. Sadly it’s not very exciting. Wayne Irish Beer Snob Dunne checked it in on Untappd recently and said it looked like something else.

That was it, Belhaven! Their Twisted Thistle IPA doesn’t actually have any Thistle juice in the brew, whether that’s a good thing, I’m not sure. It does have Challenger and Cascade hops though. It is pretty juicy, orangey and drinkable. Decent but not amazing.
Athlone Beer Clubbers I have not forgotten about you. I will have a date for our next meeting during the week. That’s all for now though. Sláinte!

  1. No thistle. Those cheaters. I have had a beer or two with thistle in it. Could not tell you exactly what it imparted though.

  2. Oh come on you are doing it wrong then.
