Salzburg memory

This picture popped up in my Facebook ‘memories’ today. It’s from a visit to the Augustiner Brewpub in Salzburg back in 2009. I can’t remember much about the beer to be honest but I can remember enjoying it and the convivial atmosphere. First you grab a large mug, you rinse it in a fountain and then you bring it to get filled from the barrel. Fresh barrels are constantly rolling in to the ‘bar’. Then there were stalls, one had bread, the next had meats, the one after that had cheeses and if you needed a bit of a kick with your food you could add some fresh horseradish.

You then sat down at long communal tables to enjoy your feast. This place is huge with nine different halls. There was a table quiz in full swing in one of them. If you’re lucky enough to be in the area you really should pay a visit. Sláinte!

I love the idea behind this bar. That sounds like an epic place to go for a beer or three. The only beer I have ever had right from the barrel was a Bourbon barrel aged Imperial Stout that had two bottle of Bourbon in it. It was tasty!
