We just happened to be facing for Roscommon yesterday evening so we decided to pay a quick visit to JJ Harlow’s. They always have something interesting to offer and I wasn’t disappointed with Black Donkey’s Sheep Stealer. The Cider Correspondent opted for a glass of McIvor’s Medium Cider which was also on draught.
She pointed out an unusual pair of bottles in the fridge. They were German beers that I’d not had before.
It doesn’t look like I’ll be attending any Oktoberfest this year but the Roggen-Weizen from Stortebeker hit the spot nicely. I was sorely tempted to rob the glass but Brian one of the proprietors is sound so the guilt would’ve kept me awake at night.
I brought home the Schwarz to try at home but had to sup it from a more prosaic glass. Two really good beers, with the Weizen being my favourite. A very pleasant way to spend an hour of a Sunday evening. Sláinte!
