Back in January Matteo of www.Birramoriamoci.it ( pro tip, if you have no/rubbish Italian Google Chrome will translate it for you!) fame contacted me about his plan to do a tour of Ireland. I recommended places for him to eat, drink and visit along the way. He has visited Carlow Brewing, Franciscan Well, Torc Brewery, Galway Bay Brewery and Galway Hooker in the last week before finishing up in Moate last night. My wife made a big pot of beef stew for Matteo and his friends. They were delighted with the bread and butter pudding she made for dessert as well. I had a few Irish beers for them to try and they enjoyed the Metalman Pale Ale and St Mel’s Helles Lager. I think it’s fair to say I overestimated their appetite for beer but don’t worry I’ll make sure the rest doesn’t go to waste.
We went to P Egan’s after dinner where Paul was an excellent host, telling the lads about all of the famous visitors who had preceded them such as Snow Patrol and Paolo Nutini. Matteo liked the Bru Ri and his companions went for the Franziskaner.
Then we took a stroll up to Don’s where brewer Dave Guilfoyle talked the lads through a few of Bo Bristle’s fine beers. It was great to meet up with the lads and I think they enjoyed their evening in Moate. Slainte!
