Stone Barrel have released two new single batch beers. Both are brewed with Oatmeal and they clock in at 6%. And there the similarities end. I tried the Oatmeal Amber Ale first. It’s hopped with Equinox which gives it a fruity tropical aroma that follows through to the palate. The oats serve to round off any sharp bitter edges and it’s a very enjoyable beer.
Some others have brewed Coffee and Oatmeal Stouts and dubbed them ‘breakfast stouts’, there is no such messing with Stone Barrel, the Rotation Series simply does what it says on the bottle. They used a blend of El Salvadoran, Guatemalan and New Guinean coffees from Cloud Picker in this brew. Again the Oatmeal counteracts any bitterness from the coffee and the end result is a pretty smooth Stout. I liked these beers and picked up fresh supplies for the weekend. They are a one off so if you like the sound of them I recommend you hit the Off Licence. Sláinte!
