Don’t let the Pooka get you!

On my recent visit to Drinkstore I also picked up a couple from White Hag. I was chatting to brewer Joe Kearns and he was surprised that they had The Púca, a Dry Hopped Lemon Sour as quickly as they did. It had only just been bottled. This has a name that is linked to Irish mythology but it also brings to mind the way your mouth puckers up when you bite into a slice of fresh lemon. This Beer is like sherbert, simultaneously sweet and sour. I just wished I had some of those small thin shortbread biscuits with icing sugar on them to go with my sorbet. You really need to try this one for yourself, it’s like no other Irish Craft Beer you’ve had before. I’d even recommend it to folks who normally drink wine and cider, seriously, you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

The Red Doe Red IPA sadly suffered by comparison. This is a case where the drink the ‘weaker’ Beer first doesn’t work. I know I enjoyed it on draught in the RDS but I’m going to have to pick up more to give it a fair hearing or tasting if you will. I’m just mentioning it so that you can learn from my mistake! Sláinte!
