I was in Don’s Bar over the weekend and Don had a nice wee surprise for me. Marcus from Reel Deel had sent down a pair of beers from Crossmolina for me to try. Finn’s Knowledge Ale was released as a seasonal beer to celebrate the Ballina Salmon Festival. If you don’t know the story of the Salmon of Knowledge then you need to dig out your Big Book of Irish Myths and Legends.
It’s a 4.5% Ale and it’s a beautiful shade of burnished gold. The label is smart and pretty classy. It’s hopped with Amarillo, Admiral and Cascade. It tasted great as the sun set on Moate and I’d imagine it would be even better sitting on the banks of the Moy eating the catch of the day. If you want to try the beer I’d suggest heading up Mayo direction. Sláinte!
