The one you’ve all been waiting for; my top three spots in Memphis!

Number 1) The Flying Saucer for great beer.
Number 2) Rendezvous for great barbecue ribs, and pork nachos.
Number 3) Barndog brilliant breakfast and a very decent if smaller beer selection.
I’ve been here four days and visited all of the above twice, just to make sure! The best tourist attraction for me had to be Sun Studio, great atmosphere and passionate guide.
Last night in Memphis so I said I’d stop into the Bardog Tavern for beer this time as it was too early in the day for me first time round. I had a Purple Haze from Abita. It was like fruity water. It’s made with raspberries and I’d like to give it a raspberry. I did however manage to finish it!

Next I had a Stone Arrogant Bastard. It’s been a long time since I’ve had one of these and the quality hasn’t dipped. Very good, nice level of hoppy bitterness and hard to detect the alcohol, given that this is fairly strong stuff.

Being regular viewers of Diners, Drive Ins & Dives we couldn’t but visit South of Beale. I started off with a Wiseacre Ananda IPA and some of their legendary popcorn. Then I had the burger. Cooked medium, the way it should be!

After dinner my wife had the Jack and Coke dessert.

Jack Daniels ice cream on top of a Coca Cola pudding with a reduced Coke syrup. It was pretty good, even if the taste of Jack Daniels didn’t jump out of the ice cream. I had a Salted Lebowski in a slight departure from my norm.

It was made with Stoli Salted Caramel, Kahlua and cream. Handy enough to make at home. The dude abides…

Just up Main Street from South of Beale you’ll find the Green Beetle.  It has a great atmosphere, the owner made us feel welcome. Which is what you want really!  I had a Yazoo Hop Project.

Holy hoppy beers Batman but this is good stuff. Off to Nashville tomorrow so I hope to be able to visit the Yazoo Brewing Company. Fingers crossed, eh?
