Jamie’s Italian was recommended to us, so when we had the opportunity to eat there yesterday, we took it! We just had some very tasty breads to start. I asked about the Irish craft beers that were mentioned on the menu. They used to have Galway Hooker. So my choices were Moretti on draft or two bottled Italian beers. I went for the Castello first and it was a grand if unremarkable lager. The Cider Correspondent broke out and had a Bellini, it wasn’t as nice as the one she had in Harry’s Bar, Venice but it also wasn’t twenty quid!
For my main I had the burger with the polenta chips. The burger was good and meaty. I think I’ll stick to having my polenta on my favourite Cranky Yankee Corn Dogs though.
I had a Messina with my burger and I was kind of wishing that I had a beer that would be better able to cope with all of that meaty goodness.
The Cider Correspondent had pappardelle with pork and veal meatballs and the waiter was very accommodating and made an offer to add fennel to the dish. We didn’t have room for dessert, which isn’t a bad complaint. The staff were very friendly and the food was good value. Deveney’s fine Off Licence around the corner stock Brew Fist which is an Italian brewery with personality and balls so maybe they should stick a few of those on the menu. I was also fierce disappointed that we didn’t see the main man Jamie Oliver, but I expect he was up to his eyes in the kitchen!
