There’s a relatively new Indian takeaway in Moate. It looks pretty, well, unassuming from the outside and I wasn’t in a rush to place an order. However I was told it was a ‘proper Indian’ and that I had to try it. Last night was my third successful visit and I opted for the Chicken Dopiaza. It was bloody marvellous. I had it with a Riasc Red which is a Red Ale special with rosehips from Beoir Chorca Dhuibhne (The West Kerry Brewery). I wasn’t sure if the combination would work. It did the job for me anyway. If you’re looking for a great takeaway in the Midlands, check out The Spice Grill in Moate. Trust me you won’t be disappointed.
I had to make my own dinner tonight, I’m very lazy and spoilt rotten by my wife but I am reasonably capable in the kitchen. I can follow instructions very well. We had a small rack of lamb that needed eating and my wife suggested cutting it up and frying it. She suggested a white wine jus. That wasn’t going to do! I fried the lamb for a few minutes with olive oil, parsley, rosemary and sage. Then I deglazed the pan with a drop of Wychwood’s Hobgoblin Ruby Ale to make some jus. I think it tasted pretty good, if I’m allowed to say so myself? And sure I couldn’t throw the rest of the beer down the sink now could I?
