White Gypsy’s Emerald was brewed back in September and it was the first commercial beer to contain only Irish ingredients. Even the bottle was printed here. The main obstacle to brewing a purely Irish beer is the hops, they haven’t been grown here in any great quantity until now. It really is a fantastic development to see and it looks like it has legs. Wicklow Wolf Brewery have just launched their Locavore beer which also features Irish hops. I can’t wait to see where this leads. Back to the Emerald Fresh Hop Beer, it’s a golden ale that reminds me of a freshly mown meadow. It’s quite light and not very bitter. I enjoyed it, it’s well worth trying. Sláinte!
