Dinner at The Ritz

The family paid an unplanned visit to The Ritz, Athlone, for dinner on Saturday night. Despite not booking ahead they found a table for us.

I started off with a pint of St Mel’s Pale Ale, I had only had bottles before and hadn’t loved it, but it tasted pretty darn good Saturday night with some spicy chicken wings!

I stuck with St Mel’s for my main and had their Autumn IPA with a 10oz Striploin. The steak came with hand cut fries and onion rings in a St Mel’s Pale Ale batter. The steak was cooked perfectly. It was all very tasty and I was quite full after it!

The ladies all enjoyed their meals, especially the specially commissioned Virgin Strawberry Dacquiris and the brownies they had for dessert. I had no room for pudding but I had heard from Dave McKay that they had some nice whiskies, and Dave knows his whiskey! I got a whiff of the new Jameson Caskmates which was aged in Fransiscan Well Stout barrels and I was sold. I’m no whiskey expert but it was the perfect way to finish my meal. The folks at The Ritz were all very friendly and helpful and we had an enjoyable evening. Sláinte!
